Git'er done - The cadooz Reconstruction

13.09.2021

It's almost time for the big reconstruction at cadooz.

Our long journey from having the first thought about the change to finally getting it done.

Part 1: Our Rationale - Why Do We Want to Change?

We have actually had the reconstruction idea on our minds for some time now. Since 2018, we have been on our journey to becoming an “agile organization.” We very quickly realized that our space also needed to change somehow.

Until then, our setup had been around 2,400 m² for almost 100 employees at that time (we call them “cadoozies”). So, just enough space for a small “cage” (aka office) for each department and the leadership. Everything nicely divided by department. I for me, we for us (us being our department). OK, coming together as a department is important, no question about that. However, an agile environment is all about self-sufficient teams that need to be cross-functional so they can meet any and all challenges head on. These teams are not static, either, but need to be created flexibly to suit the demands of the task, which is always customer-centric. This means that in the future, when an employee hears “we” or “us,” they immediately think of all colleagues—in other words, broader than their individual department.

In this context, our dividing walls have been like fortress walls. Like an internal barricade: the last bastion against the new world of work.

And so our office will become a workspace tool where our cadoozies have the opportunity to work effectively in weekly, daily, or even hourly rotating groups. We need lots of conference and collaboration spaces, as well as larger co-working spaces where cadoozies can come together without a static fixed workspace and work how they need to for the task at hand. In short: desk sharing, flexidesks, or whatever label you want to put on it.

Find out in the next post the options we have been considering.
