With an amendment to the Income Tax Act (§ 3 No. 11 c EstG), the German government wants to counteract the increased cost of living: Until Dec. 31, 2024, employers may pay employees up to 3,000 euro as inflation compensation premium in addition to their salaries. For both sides, this payment is tax- and duty-free. There can also be several payments, i.e. the amount can be split and you also do not have to reach the 3,000 euro limit. The legal status of other tax-free non-cash benefits of up to 50 euro remains unaffected by the inflation compensation bonus.
