Our new apprentices introduce themselves

21.10.2021

August is always a special month. It’s when the young professionals begin their training with us. This year at cadooz we are pleased to have two management assistant in e-commerce apprentices. Here they will learn about how a modern e-commerce enterprise operates and, keeping with a proven mix of “challenge and encouragement”, will be trained to become experts. We could go on, but let’s instead hand over to our apprentices as they introduce themselves in a short interview and a mood board.

All that remains is for us to extend a warm welcome to you, Leon and Johann. It’s great to have you on board.

What do you do at cadooz and what are you looking forward to?

I am one of the two new management assistant in e-commerce apprentices, and I’ve been here since August 2021. I am pleased to have the opportunity to work and learn in a forward-looking company, to get to know many new colleagues and, most of all, further my own personal development. I imagine that progressing through the individual departments and learning about all the different aspects and operating processes will be highly stimulating.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in a small town in Thuringia, Germany, and lived there until I was six. In 2006 I moved with my family to Hamburg, and I’ve felt very much at home here ever since.

What were your favorite subjects in school?

Actually, in school I enjoyed all of the subjects in which you are able to talk a lot, in particular politics and philosophy. My mantra back then was, “an awful lot of opinion with so little idea”. As a child, I always used to play a lot with Lego Technic, so back then I wanted to go in that direction and become an engineer. But that changed very quickly once I became aware of what an engineer actually does.

To-dos on your bucket list?

At the very top of my bucket list is someday to set foot on each of the continents and to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. I would like to see the northern lights. Preferably while soaking in a hot spring in Iceland. And because I am fascinated by the history of mankind’s origins, I definitely want to visit the world’s oldest archeological excavation site someday.

The motto you live by?

I would say it’s a combination of “you live only once”, “in for a penny, in for a pound” and “if you can do it today then why not put it off until tomorrow”. Depends entirely on how I am feeling at the time.

Your favorite game?

During the day I sometimes play chess. But when the evening comes and I want to give my brain a rest, I also really enjoy beer pong.

If you had to send Stefan an emoji, which one would you choose?

That’s definitely a tricky question, I gravitate towards: :-), admittedly not the most creative solution, but for that emoji it’s really never the wrong time.

Which would you prefer: going to a karaoke bar with our HR director Simon or taking part in a conference call with our managing director Stefan and your parents?

I’d rather go to the karaoke bar, even though I’m tone-deaf. I wouldn’t be able to impress anyone with my singing skills, but I imagine it would be a fun evening anyway. Also, I am still slightly traumatized as a result of the parent-teacher conferences back in my school days, which is why I wouldn’t really want to put myself in a similar situation.

Which training course are you on at cadooz?

I am a management assistant in e-commerce apprentice.

Why did you apply to cadooz?

It was the compelling and interesting business model, along with even more interesting faces. It’s a

growing, forward-looking company, and in the e-commerce domain almost uniquely so, which makes

the training program very attractive.

What are you looking forward to the most in regard to your training?

New faces (even if via webcam much of the time). I’ve been living in a village for a long time,

and whenever I have an opportunity, I look forward to escaping, spending time in all the different departments,

experiencing New Work, observing work routines and processes, and being allowed to be part of a

continually growing company.

Where did you grow up?

In Neuengamme, a small village on the outskirts of Hamburg.

What was your favorite subject in school?

Besides English, my favorite subject was always music. I started in elementary school on the recorder, in secondary school I signed up for the “big band” class beginning in the fifth grade and played as a trombonist until I graduated. In addition to private piano lessons, from a young age I developed an ever-growing interest in learning to play other instruments. This was all due to the influence of school and acquaintances. And so I borrowed all of the school’s instruments and picked them up by teaching myself.

What did you want to become when you were little?

I wanted, and still want, to become an astronaut. I rather doubt that anything will come of that in my

lifetime. As an alternative, I enjoy observing the stars with my telescope.

What family tradition would you like to pass on to later generations?

Maybe not a tradition, but for me growing up in natural surroundings is important. Even though life in the country

becomes frustrating after a certain age, I appreciated many positive influences

and enjoyed fantastic moments and a privileged childhood.

The motto I live by?

Everything is good in the end. If it’s not good, then it’s not the end.

My favorite game?

From Counterstrike and Battlefield to Mensch ärgere dich nicht, everything.

Bucket list?

1. Move to the city

2. A world tour

3. Learn to ride a unicyle (I can already ride a bicycle)

Things I can’t do without?

Without headphones on the train I am at a complete loss.

Would you rather go to a karaoke bar with our HR director (Simon) or take part in a

conference call with our managing director Stefan and your parents at the same

time?

I would have no problem initiating a round in the karaoke bar with Simon. Stefan of course would come along too.
